Buying a Used Sunfish Sailboat: Know The Ins and Outs Before Sailing Away

Posted in Life Of Media at 5:04 pm by admin

As anyone who’s ever bought a used car knows, you have to approach the project armed with your own knowledge before you even set foot on the lot. In this situation, being uninformed is tantamount to being taken to the cleaners.

The same goes for buying a sailboat. And, like automobiles, no sailboat is the same, so you should know the basics (and some particulars, as well) about the overall condition of the Sunfish sailboat you have your eye on.

The first question should always be, of course, how much cash are you willing to part with? If you plan on upgrading a used Sunfish, that alone can cost from $550 to $750 or more, depending on whether you want to use it to race. Prices also vary by location and supply; there’s no “set” price for a used Sunfish sailboat.

Then, where do you find a good used boat? Some people prefer to place their own ads (either in local newspapers or on the Internet) as opposed to responding to those already published. Many people have used Sunfish sailboats in pretty good condition but just haven’t thought of placing an ad for it. Also, check out local dealers, particularly if you’re buying out of season or if the outfit isn’t a Sunfish dealer. Also, knowing that sailboats go for less in winter and fall will put you ahead of the game.

Some obvious things that people often forget to look for are: age of the boat, which can be determined by checking the rudder, gunwales, or the serial number, if you don’t know the actual age; the weight of the hull, which should be between 115 and 130 pounds, and the resistance or lack thereof - watch out for a hull that’s too flexible.

Also, check the mast step and daggerboard trunk for hairline cracks or holes, and the condition of the bailer and storage compartment. And, the cockpit rim may be hiding some damage.

Other places to look for potential deal-breakers:
Signs of moisture in ports or drains.
Nicks or dents in the blades; splits and cracks in wooden blades.
Rudder and tiller cracks, corrosion, or pitting.
Dents or bends in the mast, near the tube.
Corrosion in the gaff and boom.
Holes or bad seams in the sail.

Never let the seller think you know as much as you do, bring plenty of cash just in case, and you’ll find a good deal on a used Sunfish sailboat.

What is Blogging?

Posted in Blogger News at 7:22 pm by admin

Blogs have been around for many years but have recently become somewhat a new ‘craze’. A Blog is short for Web Log is basically an online journal. They can be set up at little to no cost at all, and can be used for a wide variety of things. Some bloggers just blog for the fun of it, while others tend to use their blogs for business reasons.

The following are just a few ways blogs can be used:

1) Updates
Keep customers/clients up to date on changes to your website. Also new product announcement and new related websites.

2) Reviews
You can give opinions, advice and personal recommendations on specific products or services related to your field.

3) Personal and Business uses
Blogs are a great way to keep track of your goals and plans just by open writing.

4) Stress Reliever
Jot down your vents, gripes, thoughts. Some also find general writing therapeutic.

5) Search Engine Optimization
Search Engines love text and content. You can also include links to your website which equal backward links which in turn equals high ranking.

6) Money Makers
Yes, you can make money with your blog by providing readers with quality copy writing and a few affiliate links.

So how is a blog set up? There are several options you can choose from when starting your own blog, and a few are:

1) Using a free service such as Blogger.com ( http://www.blogger.com ).

2) Using Blogger.com (or other free blog provider) with your own domain name that you can purchase through places such as Mommy’s Helper Domain & Hosting Services ( http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/web-hosting.html ) .

3) You can also choose a paid services such as Blogit.com ( http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Affil/?51483 ) for as little as $5.95 a month.

You have your blog set up, but how do you get visitors to it and get them comming back? Along with general advertising, here are a few more ideas:

1) Directories
There are many directories that you can submit your blog to such as BlogWise.com ( http://www.blogwise.com/ ) To find more simply do a search for blog directories.

2) Link Exchange
Place links on your website to your blog and visa versa.

3) Syndicate Your Blog
For example you can now give your visitors the option of having your blog headlines right on their MyYahoo! Page. (example - http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=http%3A//www.2wahms.blogspot.com ) This makes it much simpler for your readers to quickly skim the topic headlines and an added benefit to you the blogger to keep your visitors up to date.

You also have the choice of letting your readers comments on your blog. Most services have these features and can be a great tool to keep your blog interactive between you and your readers.

With all the spam filters and spam blockers available or sometimes even automatically installed in email programs, it’s getting harder every day to keep in constant contact with your visitors/customers and/or clients. Blogs have shed some new light in this aspect giving you a better way to communicate.

Most blog services are very user friendly. If you can run simple programs such as MSWord or Word Perfect then you have the knowledge to maintain your own blog. There’s no need to even have html knowledge. In essence, anyone can have his or her own blog.

Happy Blogging!

Think Broadly and You Will Find Image Ideas Everywhere

Posted in Photography Hall at 4:37 am by admin

Sometimes, especially when in familiar surroundings, it can be difficult to think of things to photograph. It’s all been done before and there is little to motivate you. In these cases, start to think broadly.

Try these 3 easy steps to expand your creativity.

- Step 1: when in familiar areas, look around at everything that is there for example, suppose you were in a park: look for birds, squirrels, different types of trees, colours, textures, people - kids, parents, lovers - benches and seats, vendors, litter and litter bins, fences, bushes and boundaries, play areas, grasses and flowers, woodland, dead and decaying matter, paths, fountains, lakes and pools, activities (skateboarders, skaters, bikers), cars, kites, clouds, lighting patterns, hollows and crevices, moving objects, patterns and shapes, things growing and sprouting, calls, picnics, wind effects, puddles, gestures, people concentrating on things, things above you, things around your feet, gardeners and other workers, things in the distance (office blocks, houses), monuments and statues, gaily coloured things, cyclists, streams and rivulets, bridges, swings and roundabouts, neglected things, crumbling things, rocks, tended gardens, kiosks, groups, unusual items, dogs running, dogs jumping, dogs playing, ice creams and lollies (Popsicles), drains, covers, sports, families.

- Step 2: Start taking pictures of selections of these things.

- Step 3: Congratulate yourself on being able to collect so many image possibilities from one very familiar and often-visited environmental area.

The Scary Truth About Soy Protein and Bodybuilding

Posted in Online Gym at 8:19 pm by admin

Inevitably there’s a myth that soy protein is horrible for bodybuilding and that if you are any where near serious about working out or building muscle you will stay away from it. In fact, some sites show ’studies’ that soy protein and soy products can be detrimental to your health. And while it’s true that early claims of soy wonders might not be entirely true, there’s also myth that soy protein is bad.

First off, there’s a concept called the Biological Value Scale that was developed to measure the quality of specific proteins. It basically rates how efficiently your body will use a given protein source. The higher the BV (biological value), the more amino acids and nitrogen your body is retaining from the foods you eat. In sum, it becomes a way to measure the potential for quality muscle growth and strength.

There was a time when egg whites were at the top of the BV with a score of around 100. Since then, whey proteins have toped out the scales around 106-159 BV. This means that whey protein is better used for quality muscle growth.

But first a warning!

This doesn’t mean that all you would utilize is whey protein for all your needs. Many times bodybuilders will use a variety of proteins depending on the BV and the times of day and if they just finished a workout.

Let me explain… Your protein needs in the morning are different then the middle of the day and are different again AFTER a workout and again different before bed.

All this means is that no one protein is the best for any given time. But before I get lost… let me show you the biological value scale in a simple form.

Type of Protein :: Biological Value Rating

Whey: 106-159 Egg: 100 Cow’s Milk: 91 Fish: 83 Casein: 80 Beef: 80 Chicken: 79 Soy: 74 Wheat Gluten: 54 Kidney Beans: 49

For all these reasons, you can and should see that soy protein is listed lower. That just means it’s not the most anabolic of proteins for optimal muscle growth.

But don’t get me wrong…

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat soy protein if you enjoy it. It simply means that barring any religious beliefs or personal preferences, soy would not be the ideal protein source for enhanced muscle gains. This doesn’t mean you cannot have it or that it’s bad for you.

In fact, let’s continue on with a little example.

John Q. Public 13% body fat 184 lbs 160 lbs of LBM (lean body mass)

For simplification we’ll just say that for every LB of LBM (pound of lean body mass) John wants to get 1 g of protein.

John should be consuming 160 g of protein a day.

Here’s where the myth and some problems come into play! Read carefully.

If you get a vast amount of your protein from less BV sources then optimal (beans, soy) you will not prime your muscles for optimal anabolic growth. John shouldn’t be getting 150+ grams of soy protein a day IF he wants to create the most muscle mass and he has no personal reasons not to use better quality sources.

John also won’t be in jeopardy of losing muscle or wasting his efforts if he ingests small quantities of soy proteins because he likes them. Having soy in his cereal is not going to make a difference.

The myth that soy will cause men to produce estrogen is when VAST quantities are ingested. Far beyond what any rational person would want to do on a prolonged basis.

A bodybuilder that has soy will not feel any differences, be any less anabolic then another person who does not consume soy at all.

Fact: A long-term metabolic balance study in young men to assess the nutritional quality of an isolated soy protein and beef proteins (VR Young, A Wayler, C Garza, FH Steinke, E Murray, WM Rand, and NS Scrimshaw) was published in 1984 by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Am. J. Clinical Nutrition, Jan 1984; 39: 8 - 15.

After 84 days of two groups, one totally isolated soy protein and the other on beef proteins, found a conclusion that:

“Body cell mass measurements did not reveal any deterioration in protein nutritional status. These observations confirm the prediction, derived from previous short-term nitrogen balance studies, that the nutritional quality of isolated soy protein is high and that this plant protein can serve as the sole source of essential amino acids and nitrogen for protein maintenance in adults.”

So let me summarize and review…

Soy is not the most biological available source for optimal anabolic muscle growth. If you were to finish a workout, you would want to ingest some high quality whey protein vs. soy proteins. However, simply having soy doesn’t mean it’s bad for bodybuilding unless you are getting a majority of your protein from soy products. Then it’s not optimal. You’d also need to ingest quite a bit on a daily basis for any negative effects of soy to manifest (specifically aimed at males in this sentence).

Lights, Action, Camera - It’s Show Time

Posted in Photography Hall at 12:22 pm by admin

The adrenalin is pumping; a thousand butterflies have taken up residence in a hundred stomachs, and tonight is the night. In a few minutes the curtain will rise and the performers will strut their stuff before the assembled throng. Its show time. It’s what makes live performances so appealing and what the photographer wants to capture, that magical moment when the performer and audience are as one.

Be it the end of year ballet school recital or grand opera there will be these moments in every performance. This is when every photographer becomes a street photographer because no one can predict when these moments will appear. The set up and rehearsal shots just don’t cut it, these shots can’t be manufactured, they just happen. The street photographer’s mantra comes in to full play here, travel light and have lots of film.

When shooting live shows your film speed will become your greatest friend. If you shoot digital learn to switch between the ISO settings of your camera with a few thumb clicks, if your shooting film have several cameras each loaded with a different speed film. As a rule of thumb 400, 800 & 1600 should cover most situations, just remember the higher the speed the greater the grain. Another advantage of using a range of ISO’s is you can leave the aperture and shutter settings to the camera. Which 9 times out of 10 will be quicker and more accurate than either you or I could ever hope to be. This can be fast paced stuff, so much so that at times focusing can be problematical.

Using your flash to compensate for the lack of film speed is a no, no for several reasons.

Using your flash will gain you no friends with your fellow patrons and the down right ire of the production staff. They have spent several hours getting the scene to look just right only to have it ruined by the Joe in the third row with their bloody flash. If you are close enough for your flash to actually work, the scene you wanted to capture won’t be in the camera
.
Using your flash is the best way I know to get the tap on the shoulder followed by a request to leave from the really big Usher.

Using your flash is dangerous for the performer. A performer momentarily blinded by a flash loses concentration and orientation. Imagine a trapeze catcher momentarily blinded just before a catch. The dancer spinning on one toe, flash, wobble, wobble, crash. It could be a real show stopper, literally. Now you wouldn’t want that on your conscience, would you?

Rest assured, in the majority of cases the stage lighting is more than adequate for photography purposes. It does, however tend to be uneven and the best light is when the subject is being lit by spill rather than in a direct beam of light. Taking several shots as the subject moves about the stage should produce at least one good one, remember lots of film. This is where, outside of sport, the continuous drive mode on the more expensive cameras comes in handy.

The down side to these cameras is their several auto focus points which can be a real pain in the proverbial. Never too sure which part of the scene the camera has decided to focus upon. Switch it off and just use one point, set your focus and recompose the picture as desired.

Likewise a tripod is more of a hindrance than a help, awkward to lug about and set up. Your fellow patrons are just as likely to knock it at the crucial moment if you’re in an open venue and it will cost you an extra couple of seats if you’re in a seated auditorium. Better to shoot hand held and if your budget will stretch to it an IS lens is an added advantage. It is comforting to know that any motion blur is from the performers rather than the photographer.

Fortunately there are medium telephotos that come with image stabilization. This is my preferred lens for this kind of shooting, especially if static in C22. A medium telephoto will give you the greatest range of possibilities, fiddling with primes is very difficult to get right before the moment is gone. Although if you’re in an open venue they can work, just remember Robert Capa’s words of wisdom “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”

In an open venue such as hall, a night club or a bar your freedom of movement will be an asset to getting that great shot. You can shoot from the side, from the front, up the lead singer’s trouser leg or from the balcony. Do resist the temptation to climb on the speaker stacks. Sound engineers take a very dim view of this and more than likely will dispatch the biggest and meanest roadie in your direction with orders if not to kill, to at least maim seriously.

In the more formal environment of a tiered auditorium you should be far enough back so you can see something of the stage floor. You don’t want the performers in all your shots to be cut off at the ankles. Also get your seats as central as possible. It is usual for the production values of a show to be set from the centre of the auditorium. The director, the lighting designer and the stage designer will huddle together there making the final adjustments to the look of the show and the performers will instinctively direct their performances at them.

But before you start implementing any of the above pearls, do get permission not only from the venue and organizers but also the performers. You are photographing on private property, even if owned by the local council, and will at least require the venue manager’s green light. The organizers, producer, band management, whoever will own the copyright to the show and you will need their permission. The same goes for your models, the performers. Photographing your kids is fine but Mrs. Smith’s could be a very different story.

If you have thoughts of anything other than the family album, even the internet, it would be best to get it in writing. Property and model releases at the very least and the more professional the show the greater the need. Getting them before the show is the best course of action, decreases the chances of embarrassing moments and trying to get them after the event is very hard work if not impossible.

Then after the curtain falls and the applause fades away, you will have some moments in your camera that will bring back fond memories of a great night. Perhaps even earn you a dollar or two if you have the paper work in place.

Obtain Cheap Cricket Items Online

Posted in Best Recreation Resources, Shopping Hall, Sports Center at 2:48 am by admin

When you are just about to start to play cricket it’s not always straightforward to know what you should purchase. If you go into a sportswear equipment high street store & ask them what you need, you will finish up getting loads of kit. Hence, it is important to fathom what you may want before you go shopping. That way you are more likely to purchase what you need, as opposed to what the shop landlord thinks you need.

Below, is more or less a meticulous cricket equipment list, you do not require to get everything on this list, as a substantial number of clubs will loan you gear in particular at youth level: Find great offers on cricket hats.

Cricket whites, cricket bats, balls, helmets, gloves, batting (wicket keeping) inner gloves, wicket keeping gloves, batting pads, wicket keeping pads, box, chest pad, arm guard, inner thigh pad, cricket boots (bowling boots; batting boots), box (groin guard), stumps and bails.

For the majority of sports games you play a part in you will need to have your very own set of whites. Cricket whites include white cricket trousers & cricket shirt. Ensure that you get a proper pair of cricket trousers as well as a good white cricket shirt & jumper as it can rapidly turn pretty cold if you are standing out on the pitch for a lengthy period of time particularly if you are going to play in England (the start and end of the cricket season are the coldest).

If you can not borrow gear from your club the other most important items of equipment are a cricket bat and box. An excellent cricket bat is vital if you aim to score countless of runs and is a very individual piece of cricket equipment, therefore spend some time selecting your bat, preferably you would be advised to go to a sports store & try one out before you buy in order for you to know how it feels to hit with. When you know what you want you can often get bats on the Internet considerably cheaper). You need a good box to protect your groin from the ball, as getting hit down below’ is particularly painful, so investing in a good box before you start is a clear must - you can’t play cricket without one.

Choosing A Coffee Maker - Tips On Finding The Right Features

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:17 pm by admin

Choosing a good coffee maker is not a decision to be taken for granted. If you are going to spend money on your favorite coffee, you will want to make sure the coffee maker you choose is of good quality and has the features you want. The majority of coffee makers are generally quite good and you will notice no difference in the taste of your coffee from one brand to another. There are some basic features to look for when choosing a coffee maker and some luxury features that may give you a better tasting cup of coffee

The first decision you must make in choosing a coffee maker is what type of filter you would prefer. You can choose a basket type filter or a cone shaped filter, the difference in the two being different contact times between the coffee grounds and the water. A basket type filter seems to provide a longer contact time between the water and the coffee grounds, so if a basket filter is your preference, make sure you use coffee grounds that are fairly large. Cone type filters are generally less prone to spillage. If you are considering a gold tone filter, it will give your coffee a richer taste, but the upkeep may not be worth the small difference.

The color of your coffee maker is not a major concern, but keep in mind that if you choose a color that is pleasing to you, your coffee will seem to taste better. The only real issue involved in the color of your coffee maker is to remember that white stains easily and tends to look old rapidly. A dark color will look new a lot longer than a white coffee maker. Coffee makers with a pot that has a long neck will be harder to clean. If you cannot easily wash the coffee pot with soap and water, your coffee will taste stale over time due to the build up of residue that cannot be cleaned easily. Make sure your entire hand can fit inside the coffee pot to make cleaning easy.

Other than the basic features, which include color, filter, ease of cleaning, etc., there are some additional features that you may want to consider. If you don’t mind your coffee grounds being exposed to air overnight, a timer is a wonderful thing to have. Timers will allow you extra time in the mornings and if you choose a coffee maker with an attached grinder, the noise would probably eliminate your need for an alarm clock. A feature that is often overlooked is the shape of the housing around the coffee pot. Many manufacturers are making the housing larger so that the coffee in the pot stays hotter. The housing area in any good coffee maker should cover at least half of the coffee pot, the keep heat in.

In general, coffee that is freshly ground tastes better. Grinders that are attached to coffee makers are a bit of a hassle. They make the coffee maker harder to clean and the coffee beans are not always ground uniformly. If you want a coffee maker with an attached grinder, look for a burr grinder rather than a blade grinder. You may also want to look into a coffee maker with a built in water filtration system. Filtered water does tend to make the coffee taste better, but purchasing distilled or purified water can serve the purpose just as well as a built in water filtration system.

For the perfect pot of coffee, the water temperature needs to be around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. In general, the less expensive coffee makers do not reach this temperature. Most of the better brand names will advertise the temperature you can expect your coffee to reach while brewing. Choosing the right coffee maker is not easy. Make sure you purchase from well-known manufacturers. You will be able to find replacement parts and will be assured of an acceptable level of quality. Choose a coffee maker that meets your basic needs and any has additional features you desire.

The Pastimes of Luck Gamblers like to Engage in: All You Need to Know about Gaming Establishment Card Playing

Posted in Best Recreation Resources, Gambling Capers, Lucky Betting at 9:07 am by admin

On the assumption you haven’t yet figured out betting saloon wagering, you’ll find more about that here.

A running definition of a gaming hall is a building that presents games of luck. At such a place, aficionados are encouraged to take risks handling the slot-machines or trying out alternative games of luck. Betting saloon games for the most part have logically determined chances incorporated which insure the gambling hall keeps hold of an upper hand against the betting enthusiasts.

A lot of gaming room games can make you end up obsessed quickly. E.g. there’s the classic one armed bandit, a coin operated machine with three, sometimes more reels which orbit when a crank coupled to it is pushed. The instrument customarily will compensate punters established by a series of emblems discernible on the lit panel of the appliance. Regrettably, betting house games strive to create the false impression of power, deluding the gambling enthusiast - the victim is challenged with make choice, but in actual fact these cannot really eliminate the patron’s long term negative odds. This is induced by the gaming hall not paying out the full stake as hoped for. This systematic pattern is frequently found in popular casino games such as poker, dice games, roulette or blackjack.

Straight poker is certainly an immensely fashionable casino game. The gaming devotees, playing with partially obscured hands, will bet in the pot which is ultimately paid out to the last gamester bearing the winning set of cards. (And yes, the best bluffing hand may well prevail as well.)

poker gambling

Much the same as Texas hold’em poker, blackjack too is a very fashionable casino game. A sizeable chunk of its repute is owed to its particular mix of chance and know how and decision making, not to mention a praxis titled “card counting”. The aforementioned is a complicated mode of playing gaming tactics through which gambling fans will actually switch the chances of the card game to establish the upper hand by both wagering and procedural opetations corresponding with the hands shown.

Craps is a well-known wagering game using the throw of two dice. Gamers bet on the outcome of of one roll, or on a series of spins of 2 dice. In contrast to blackjack, there just isn’t any reliable bona fide winner betting system people could cash in on to beat the odds.

Roulette is another famous casino based pastime. A croupier will turn a roulette wheel encompassing a set of exactly thirty-seven (French roulette) or, respectively exactly 38 (as in American roulette) uniquely marked places in which the white ball will settle, signifying the winning number When the gamer has put money on any given number which makes it, which is to say it’s their lucky day, the set recompense will be thirty-five to one, the initial pledge itself is tossed back. Consequently in totality the initial pledge is multiplied by a factor of 36.
