I have written in the past about the foolishness of being too ultra-aggressive, eventually someone is going to catch you and you’ll lose big. But some well-timed aggressiveness is always good. I was playing a game of No Limit Texas Hold Em online poker at a casino recently when I was dealt 7-2 on the button. Normally when you get dealt 7-2 you throw in away and hope for a better hand next time. Certainly that is what I usually do. However, I noticed that everyone before all had folded. And the two player sin the blinds had been playing pretty tight. So I made a decent-sized raise in hopes of picking up the blinds. Well, the small blind folded but the big blind called me. Oh well, I tried, I thought to myself. Well, imagine my surprise, when the flip came out 7-7-2! Needless to say, I ended up winning a nice sized pot. Now you could say I never should have been in the hand in the first place, but just by making an aggressive play I ended up benefiting greatly. You never know what can happen unless you try and make a few poker online plays.

Statistically, the worst starting hand in poker is 7-2 unsuited, but the truth is, even that hand can turn into the nuts if the flop is good. As anyone who’s ever had it can tell you, the real worst hand in any poker game is the second best one.
You’re hands are only good or bad relative to your opponents’ hands, and the ones that make you bet into a winning hand are going to be the ones that end up costing you the most. At least with 7-2 unsuited, you can fold the hand preflop and it won’t end up costing you anything, but Ace-King of Hearts can take you all the way to the river with a nut flush, just to see your hand (and your chip stack) fall to a full boat. I’ve lost more in one hand with King full over Aces (to Aces over Kings) then I probably ever will folding 8-2 unsuited before the flop.
When you’re in the hand, even if you’ve got a monster, make sure that you know the board and there’s no better hand out there before you decide to make a move for your stack, because some of the best hands you’ll get can end up costing you when you play poker online.
